Year 11 CREATIVE PLANNING

Today we watch the opening of two films of different genres as inspiration:
  • The English Patient (dir. Anthony Minghella, 1996) opens with a close up of a hand holding a paintbrush painting human figures as if on a cave wall and then cross dissolves to an aerial shot of similar coloured sand dunes.
  • Our brainstorming: how could we open with a CU of a hand writing on a document? Suggestions: Marriage or death certificate. Exam for Civil Service, police service, MI6. Psychiatrist's report on whether or not to release a criminal.
  • Made In Dagenham (dir. Nigel Cole, 2010 ) opens with an establishing shot, a wide angle shot, of a crowd of factory workers converging towards their car plant as their working day starts.
  • Our brainstorming: where could you find realistic establishing shots for atmosphere and authenticity? Suggestions: railway stations, shopping centres, car parks, high streets.
