Audience pleasures
We watch an edition of QI to note audience pleasures. Terms to note:Stephen Fry: genial and erudite. He knows about anthropology, for example, and why the Malagasy people in Madagascar fear aye ayes.
Alan Davies: the 'fall guy' who gets the wrong answer
Well known comedians, actors, politicians, chat show pannellists all form the two teams.
QI stands for quite interesting: marks given for banter, quips, rather than for right answers. Lee Mack is rewarded for his humour rather than the 'right answer'. Sandy Toksvig remarks that the lemur would find it easier to get a better fitting hat than an aye aye.
Comedy is mainstream (not niche) for all the family so even if there are adult themes, the emphasis is on humour. Sandi Toksvig uses a euphemism for genitals, for example.
Regular feature is funny buzzers. Each programme features a speicfic letter of the alphabet. The letter I, for example, includes puns on 'eye' and 'aye aye'.
