Yr 10: AUDIENCES & INSTITUTIONS

Today we discuss a range of issues relating to audiences (such as yourselves) and institutions (such as the film industry), covering trends and audience pleasures.
When thinking about trends, we evaluate the different pleasures for audiences of cinema-going as opposed to watching online films, the use of animation and the use of sound in film.

We put into practice one model of audience behaviour: the two step flow model, which draws attention to the importance of opinion formers in media. You are invited to suggest films that your peers might enjoy. Have you persuaded them?

We revisit the uses and gratifications model of audience pleasures (Blumler and Katz, 1974) and study a model answer on two television comedies, QI and The IT Crowd.
