Yr 10 B321 ANALYTICAL ASSIGNMENT

In class, we continued the long essay comparing 3 advertisements.
·         We made sure that our headers were correct
·         and that the title was accurate.
·         We made the images big enough for the moderator to see
·         and we ensured that there were at least 5 screenshots from our TV advertisements.
·         We put the oldest advert first and the TV advert last
·         We used the word ‘advertisement’ rather than ad or advert (use 'find and replace')

For PREP, we continue, ensuring that:
·         the first sentence in each advert analysis is an introduction to the central representation (that is, the person depicted) who represents the target audience
·         the social / historical context is explained and related to the representation (such as, post-feminist, Art Nouveau, the ‘new man’, wartime, and so on). Social values are usually embedded in the messages sent by advertisements.
·         We analyse the setting for its messages about the brand
·         We have a paragraph for each point, such as the clothes, colours, posture, gesture, possessions of the central figure
·         One paragraph is on how they are positioned in relation to any other person
·         We show how the values in the representation support the brand name and slogan

We compare representations where we notice differences or similarities
Using  topic sentences to introduce each point in a paragraph creates a clear focus
Likewise, discourse markers (such as 'likewise') ensure clear navigation through

Other examples of discourse markers include:

Firstly, secondly, thirdly...
Similarly, by comparison, equally, in addition, another example, another facet of the representation,   ...
By contrast, however,
In conclusion, to conclude,in summary,
