AUSTIN POWERS

We study Action Adventures conventions in a screening of Austin Powers which we accessed HERE. We ask ourselves, what events are typical of Action Adventure films? What characters are typical of Action Adventure films?
Action Adventure conventions (= typical events and characters):
  • combat and conflict (violence)
  • speed and motion
  • suspense and jeopardy (=risk and danger)
  • spectacle (= visually arresting)
  • heroes and villains (protagonists and antagonists). Heroes will typically show physical bravery.
  • damsels in distress
  • sidekicks, henchmen
To answer the examination question 1, you will do well if you use the structure PEE (point, evidence, explanation). For example:
P "One Action Adventure convention in this extract is the use of suspense and jeopardy."
E "Suspense is created when the protagonist ejects from his helicopter and parachutes towards his speeding car in an attempt to land in it  (jeopardy or danger)."
E "It is dangerous because......"
