YOUR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT COMPARING ADVERTISEMENTS

We start with a couple of small bright ideas: Visual Poetry app and Mosaic Pictures. We demo the mosaic picture on the overhead and discuss its uses across your curriculum.

Your third advert choice in your written assignment is a TV advert. We view the current One Million Paco Rabanne and we deconstruct it carefully. See the parody HERE!

This shows you the skills that you need yourself:
  • Identify the key codes first, always starting with the most striking
  • Formulate a topic sentence in your head; once you have identified this, the rest of the paragraph will write itself
  • Focus on representation: how is the model presenting him/herself?
  • Visual codes include clothes, gesture, posture, framing, setting, facial expression, make-up, accessories
  • Set the advert in context: historical period, social situation
  • Ask yourself: what are the brand's values? what does it promise / offer the target buyer?
  • What are the brand's messages? What is in the slogan?

Secret Santa By popular request, we drew names for a Secret Santa. Gifts to be exchanged on Wednesday 12 December. I have requested that gifts are small and media-related: rise to the challenge!

PREP CONTINUING YOUR ESSAY Try to complete the analysis of your second chosen advert , using the 'Exemplar' model on the blog. REMEMBER to contrast.
