Yr 10 ACTION ADVENTURE: ANALYSING HEROES

Your first exam question analyses heroes. Here is the usual question. We are working on just the 'character' aspect, that is, the way in which the hero or heroine is constructed that makes them 'heroic'.

PREP: Watch an extract of Johnny English (click here) on YouTube, such as this example. He is, of course, rather a failure ( a bit of an anti-hero) sometimes but he does try to be an action hero
In what way?
What are his qualities? Commanding, daring, decisive, brave, dashing?
Is his role that of an action hero? Does he attempt heroic feats? Use martial arts or show physical prowess? Attempt amazing stunts?
Does he say heroic things?
Does he try to save the country / a woman / a situation? ( e.g. combat villains)
Does he dress / look like a man of action? Is he muscular and strong? Hyper-masculine?
Does he use action gadgets, cars or weapons? Drive fast? Drink hard? Impress women?
